Children's Ministry

What to Expect on a Sunday Morning

Welcome. We are so happy that you are thinking about joining us on a Sunday morning. Please know that everyone, no matter what their age, is invited to join us in worship!

Our worship service starts at 10:50 am in the sanctuary with hymn singing, praying together, and reading the Bible. Children of all ages are invited to participate, sitting in the congregation with their parents and guardians. The children are invited to the front of the church for the “children’s moment,” to explore a devotion based on the week’s scripture designed especially for kids. After the children’s moment, toddlers to 5thgrade are invited downstairs for Children’s Church.

Preschool and Elementary

Children meet in the following rooms downstairs for Children’s Church according to their age.

Room 121: Infants – age 4

Room 120: Kindergarten – 3rdgrade

Room 117: 4th-5thgrade

To learn and worship, we use Sparkhouse Curriculum Whirl and the same Bible scripture used in our worship and sermon.

Following worship, you may pick up your child from Children’s Church in their respective rooms.

What to Expect Throughout the Week

JYF – Junior Youth Fellowship

Junior Youth Fellowship (JYF) is offered at Central Christian Church for 3rd - 5thgraders the last Sunday evening of the month from 5 – 7 pm in the Central Christian Church Upstairs in Fellowship Hall. We have dinner, play games, and learn a bible lesson. For the 2018-2019 school year, we are learning more about God and Science. We will explore the ways that God has created us to not only be ourselves, but also how God created the world around us!

Summer Camps

During the summer, we attend Disciple Oaks Camp & Retreat in Gonzales, Texas. Children who have completed grades 2nd– 4th attend JYF camp and children who have completed grades 5th - 7thattend Chi Rho Camp. At camp, we meet others our age from all over south Texas.

As a church affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) we follow the call of a believer’s baptism. This means that we baptize, by full immersion, adults and children when they are old enough to make their own choice to be baptized and understand the commitment of what it means to join the church.

When an adult or a child feels ready to make this big decision in their life, they attend a “Discipleship Class” led by a minister. During this time, they also make their confession of faith to the congregation, and then are baptized in our sanctuary. We typically offer the class the weeks before Easter and the baptisms on Easter Sunday.

However, we understand that God’s call in you may not align with this time frame, please see a minister of the church for alternate class schedules.
