Children's Ministry

What to Expect on a Sunday Morning

Welcome! We are so happy that you are thinking about joining us on a Sunday morning. Please know that everyone, no matter what their age is invited to join us in worship!

Our worship service starts at 10:50 am in the sanctuary and children are invited to begin worship, sitting in the congregation. During that time, we will sing a hymn, pray, and read scripture. Then the children are invited to the front of the church for the “children’s moment,” where there is a special devotion over the week’s scripture designed especially for kids. After the children’s moment, the children from toddlers age to those in 3rdgrade (or not yet baptized) are invited downstairs for Children’s Church.

Preschool and Elementary

Infants through age 4, spend “Children’s Church” downstairs in Room 121. Children in kindergarten - 5thgrade are invited to Children’s Church downstairs. The children in kindergarten - 3rdgrade are in Room 120 and 4th - 5thare in Room 117. We use Sparkhouse Curriculum Whirl where we spend time learning and worshipping, using the same scripture used in our adult worship. After worship is dismissed, you may pick up your child from Children’s Church in their respective rooms.

What to Expect Throughout the Week

JYF – Junior Youth Fellowship

At Central Christian Church, we know that it is important to make friends at church which is why we invite JYF’ers in grades 3rd– 5thto join us monthly on Sunday nights at church.

JYF is invited to join the last Sunday of the month from 5 – 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall Upstairs. We have dinner, play games, and learn a bible lesson. For the 2018-2019 school year, we are learning more about God and Science. We will explore the ways that God has created us to not only be ourselves, but also how God created the world around us!

Summer Camps

During the summer, we attend Disciple Oaks Camp & Retreat in Gonzales, Texas. Children who completed grades 2nd– 4thattend JYF camp and children completed grades 5th - 7thattend Chi Rho Camp. At camp, we meet others our age from all over south Texas.

Other Fellowship Activities

Throughout the year, you can find us gathered together for seasonal activities. Continue to check your email, sign up for our newsletter, and follow us on Facebook and Instagram to find out about these events. Activities such as, Vacation Bible School where every summer we spend a few mornings together learning about God. Or, every last week in October we have a Trunk or Treat with costumes, candy, and hotdogs. And of course, there are always fun times in the life of the church during Easter and Christmas.

As a church affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) we follow the call of a believer’s baptism. This means that we baptize adults and children when they are old enough to make their own choice to be baptized (we do so by full emersion) and understand the commitment of what it means to join the church. When an adult or a child feels ready to make this big decision in their life, they attend a “Discipleship Class” led by a minister. During this time, they also make their confession of faith to the congregation, and then are baptized in our sanctuary. We typically do the classes the weeks before Easter and the baptisms on Easter. However, we understand that God’s call in you may not align with this time frame, please see a minister of the church for alternate class schedules.
